Build Your Detailing Kit with Our Experts' 'Must-Have's

What detailing products do I need? What products should go in my detailing kit?

These are questions we get regularly from first time detailers so we're here to help! We welcome all enthusiasts new to detailing - don't forget to use code MYFIRSTORDER if it's your first time shopping with us! Take a look at the list our Master Detailers have put together of 'must-have's (and things to avoid) for all you new car cleaning enthusiasts.

Buckets & Grit Guards

Yes, bucketS, plural! It's important to practice the two-bucket method (three if you can) for safe car cleaning and to reduce the likelihood of contaminating your wash mitt during the cleaning process.

You should use at least two buckets when cleaning; one for washing and one for rinsing. This reduces the chance of dirt particles being rubbed across the vehicle's surface causing scratching or marring. Buckets should be fitted with grit guards which are designed to filter and catch grit in the bottom of your bucket. We recommend a grit guard in both buckets but, if you want to save money and only buy one grit guard, place it in the rinse bucket.

Snow Foam

If you have a pressure washer, a snow foam is a must have in your collection!  Snow Foam is sprayed onto your vehicle and is designed to soak and break down dirt, allowing it to be lifted from the surface for an easy rinse off. This removes heavier contaminants that have accumulated on your paintwork so that the grit and grime does not get rubbed across the surface causing scratches.

So how do you apply a snow foam? To apply a snow foam you need to use a snow foam lance. This is a bottle with an attachment that fits onto your pressure washer in order to produce a thick, foamy covering that can be sprayed onto your vehicle.

You can shop our snow foam and lance kits to save money rather than buying them separately.

Shampoo & Wash Mitt

Used in conjunction with a wash mitt, car shampoos are the safest way to ensure a scratch-free wash.

Vehicle shampoo is mostly made up of surfactants (Surface Active Agents) which are chains of carefully designed two-part molecules. One end of the surfactant is hydrophilic (water-loving) and the other end is dirt-loving. When an automotive shampoo is applied to your vehicle, these surfactants seek out the dirt and surround it so that it is able to be lifted from the paintwork surface.

Wash mitts are designed to be soft on paintwork and you can choose from microfibre or wool.

Drying Towel

Nobody wants to see a streaky car after a wash, so make sure your hard work doesn't go to waste by using one of our great range of car drying towels to keep your paintwork looking good. Microfibre dying towels are the safest way to dry your car without scratching or leaving swirl marks on the surface. Microfibre is soft to the touch which makes it the ideal material for drying towels.

The Martin Cox Giant Miracle Dry Microfibre Drying Towel is a bestseller due to its affordability or you can go for the more professional CARPRO Fat Boa.
